Find institutional support

Many common Blackboard LMS questions can’t be answered by Blackboard. Your institution configures and manages its own Blackboard LMS environment, which means your institution’s help desk — not Blackboard — is the right place to go for many account, content, and access issues.

This page explains when to contact your institution’s help desk and how to find them.

When to contact your institution

Reach out to your institution’s help desk when you experience any of the following.

Login and account access

  • You can’t log in and a password reset doesn’t resolve it.

  • Your account is locked and your institution doesn’t allow self-unlock.

  • Your single sign-on (SSO) provider isn’t letting you sign in.

  • You think your account hasn’t been created or has been deactivated.

For more login-specific guidance, go to Log into Product: Blackboard LMS and Login Troubleshooting.

Profile fields you can’t edit

Some profile fields — such as your email address, name, or pronouns — may appear locked or read-only. This usually means your institution has configured Blackboard LMS so that these fields can only be changed through institutional systems. Your help desk can update them for you or tell you which system to use.

Missing content or pages that won’t open

If course content has disappeared or a page won’t open, the cause is often outside Blackboard LMS itself. Common examples include institutional configuration changes, network issues, or device-specific problems. Your help desk can investigate these on their end. If they confirm the issue is a bug in Blackboard LMS, they can open a support ticket with Blackboard — something instructors and students can’t do directly.

Personal information, grades, and coursework

Blackboard doesn't store your personal information, grades, or course submissions. If you have questions about any of these, contact the right person at your institution:

  • For grades, feedback, or assignment submissions, contact your instructor.

  • For records, enrollment, or personal data, contact your institution’s help desk or registrar.

How to find your institution’s help desk

Your Blackboard LMS landing page includes a built-in lookup that helps you find your institution’s help desk.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the instructor or student landing page.

  2. Find the section titled Contact your institution’s help desk.

  3. In the Google Search bar, enter your institution’s name in the field labeled Enter your institution’s name.

  4. Select Google Search. Your search results open in a new tab.

From the search results, look for an official institutional help desk, IT support, or technology services page.

What to include when you contact support

To help your institution’s help desk respond quickly, include as much of the following as you can:

  • Your name and your institutional username or ID.

  • The course or page where the issue is happening (if applicable).

  • A clear description of what you expected and what happened instead.

  • The exact text of any error message.

  • The date and time the issue occurred.

  • Your device, operating system, and browser (and version, if you know it).

  • Screenshots, if you can include them.
