Select the Settings button to open the Settings panel and customize your gradebook to match your teaching style and course goals.

Student options

Choose how student names are displayed in grid view: First name last name or Last name, first name. Toggle the Student ID column on or off. When shown, Student ID appears in its own sortable column.

Upload and Download Gradebook

Select Download grades or Upload gradebook to work with grade data outside Blackboard LMS.

Grade Schemas

Grading schemas map percentages to letter grades or another notation for reporting performance. Select Manage Grade Schemas.

Student Performance

Identify students with alerts and receive activity stream notifications, based on:

  • Overall grade below or equal to a percentage you set.

  • Number of missed due dates above or equal to a number you set.

  • Days since last access above or equal to a number you set.

If you leave a field empty, that alert won't show. Select the checkbox to send activity stream notifications to students based on these same settings. Select View Course Activity to open the Course Activity report.

Automatic Zeros

Assign automatic zeros for past due work. Students can still submit late to update their grade, and students with due date accommodations aren't affected.

Overall Grade

Select Manage overall grade settings.

Students Visibility

Hide students in the gradebook who no longer have access to the course.

Item Management

Select Manage gradebook items to configure column visibility across all gradebook views. This applies to all non-student users (instructors, TAs, graders). Student view is unaffected: a hidden column stays hidden from non-student users but still appears for students.

Grade Categories

Grade categories are groups of similar coursework. Select Add New Category to create one, or manage existing categories from this list, covered in Grade Categories.

Course Rubrics

Select Create or Generate to build a new rubric directly from this panel, or manage existing rubrics from this list.

Overall Grade Notations

Override a student's overall grade with a notation that falls outside the course grade schema, for example when a student withdraws mid-semester.

Select Add Overall Grade Notation, then enter a name and description. To apply a notation, select the student's overall grade cell in Grid View and choose the notation. The cell turns gray to indicate an override. To remove it, select the cell again and select Undo Override.
