Anonymous Grading
Anonymous grading helps instructors reduce bias and maintain fairness when evaluating student work. When enabled, student names are hidden during the grading process, allowing instructors to focus solely on the quality of the submission.
Why use anonymous grading?
Anonymous grading is especially useful in situations where:
Instructors want to avoid unconscious bias based on student identity.
Grading is being done collaboratively or by multiple instructors.
Assignments are subjective.
Using anonymous grading
When anonymous grading is enabled for an assignment:
Student names are hidden during grading.
Instructors see only the submission content and any attached files.
Feedback and grades are saved as usual, but student identities remain hidden until all grades are posted or anonymity is manually disabled.
Anonymous grading can be enabled when creating or editing an assignment. Once grading begins, anonymity remains in place until all submissions are graded or the instructor chooses to reveal student names.
Limitations and Considerations
Anonymous grading is not available for group assignments or assignments with delegated grading.
If a student includes identifying information in the submission itself (e.g., name in a document), anonymity may be compromised.
Instructors can disable anonymous grading at any time, but doing so will reveal student names for all submissions.
