Your Account in Blackboard App

Manage your profile

Your profile in the Blackboard App reflects your institutional information. You can update your profile picture, name pronunciation, and add optional details like pronouns or contact info.

  • To update your picture, go to More, then Select your avatar, then upload or take a photo. You can also remove it if needed.

  • To manage your profile details, select View Profile. Select the pencil icon to edit fields or add new information. You can also record or replace your name pronunciation for clarity in student interactions.

Changes sync across the app and web platform.

Use the Activity Stream

The Activity Stream is your real-time dashboard for course updates. It highlights and prioritizes new content, announcements, upcoming due dates, and posted grades. Select any item to open it or select the course title to go to the course outline.

Dismiss Activity Stream items:

  • You can dismiss items in the “Important” section after reviewing them.

  • Dismissing a course announcement removes it from the stream across all devices, but it remains accessible within the course’s Announcements section.

  • System announcements may reappear later even after dismissal.

Tip

Notification settings in the web version of Blackboard do not affect the app’s activity stream.

Create and manage Announcements

In Ultra courses, you can create announcements with formatted text and media directly from the app.

Create an announcement:

  1. Access your course, select Announcements

  2. Use + to create a new message.

  3. Set recipients, schedule visibility, and choose to send an email copy.

Edit or delete announcements:

  • Select the three-dot menu on any announcement to make changes or remove it.

Drafts are saved automatically, and you can return to post or schedule them later. Students will see announcements in the app and web view.

Use push notifications

Push notifications keep you informed of key course events. In Ultra, you’ll receive alerts for:

  • New content

  • Announcements

  • Discussion activity

  • Grades and feedback

  • Due dates for assignments, tests, and discussions

Due date reminders appear one day before and cannot be turned off. Most announcement notifications are system-controlled and always enabled.

To customize other notifications:

  • Go to More, then Settings, and then Notifications in the app. You can adjust preferences for push, email, and stream notifications to suit your workflow.

Attach Files from Cloud Storage

You can attach files to assignments and discussions using cloud storage services.

iOS:

  • Blackboard App integrates with the Files app, allowing access to services like iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox. Ensure the cloud app is installed and enabled in Files.

Android:

  • Blackboard AppBlackboard App uses the system file picker. From an assignment or discussion, select Add Content or Add Files, then choose a file from your device or cloud service.

This feature streamlines content sharing and supports a wide range of file types.
