Accessibility updates

This release improves accessibility in core Encompass areas by incorporating:

  • Content Submenus Support Keyboard Navigation WCAG Area

  • Admin Main Menu Submenus are Easier to Use (WCAG 1.4.13 – Content on Hover or Focus, Level AA)

  • Navigation and Page Content Support Text Resizing (WCAG 1.4.4 – Resize Text, Level AA)

  • Improved Page Reflow Behavior and Focus Behavior for Form Errors

  • Accessible Text Color Selector and Grouping for Related Note Category Controls (WCAG 4.1.2 – Name, Role, Value, Level A)

  • Clearer Labels for Date Fields, Error Messaging for Required Image Uploads, Identification of Required Table Selections, Indicators for Links Opening in New Windows or Tabs and Required Field Error Messages

Content Submenus Support Keyboard Navigation WCAG Area:

Content submenus now support keyboard navigation (WCAG 2.1.1 – Keyboard, Level A). Admins can expand, collapse, and move through submenu items using keyboard controls instead of relying solely on a mouse. This enhancement improves accessibility, making administrator controls easier to use for keyboard-only users and those relying on assistive technologies.

Admin Main Menu Submenus are Easier to Use (WCAG 1.4.13 – Content on Hover or Focus, Level AA):

Admin main menu now supports accessible hover and focus behavior (WCAG 1.4.13 – Content on Hover or Focus, Level AA). Submenus remain visible while users interact with them, can be opened and navigated using the keyboard, and can be dismissed without requiring pointer movement. These improvements make navigation more reliable and inclusive for keyboard users, screen reader users, and individuals with limited dexterity.

Improved Page Reflow Behavior (WCAG 1.4.10 – Reflow, Level AA)

Navigation and content now remain visible, readable, and functional at smaller viewport sizes, including narrow widths and higher zoom levels. This enhancement ensures that users who rely on zoom or smaller displays can continue navigating the admin experience without hidden, overlapping, or difficult‑to‑use keyboard‑focusable menu items.

Accessible Text Color Selector (WCAG 4.1.2 – Name, Role, Value, Level A):

The text color selector now communicates the correct role, name, and selected state to assistive technologies. These updates improve reliability for keyboard and screen reader users, making it easier to understand and interact with color selection controls.

Clearer Labels for Date Fields (WCAG 3.3.2 – Labels or Instructions, Level A):

Start date and end date fields now include visible and accessible labels, making it easier for users to understand the purpose of each control. These improvements provide clearer guidance for all users and better support for screen reader users, helping them complete date-based form fields with confidence.

Clearer Error Messaging for Required Image Uploads (WCAG 3.3.2 – Labels or Instructions, Level A):

Validation messages for required image upload fields now clearly inform users when an image is missing or invalid. The error state is communicated both visually and programmatically, ensuring screen reader users understand what needs to be corrected before submitting the form.

Clearer Identification of Required Table Selections (WCAG 3.3.2 – Labels or Instructions, Level A):

Required selection guidance in account registration tables has been improved so the required state is now visible and accessible to assistive technologies. This enhancement helps users understand when a table row selection is necessary before submitting the form, reducing confusion during account registration workflows.

Improved Focus Behavior for Form Errors (WCAG 3.3.2 – Labels or Instructions, Level A):

When a form is submitted with invalid required fields, focus now moves directly to the first field in error or to an error summary when available, instead of returning to the top of the page. This enhancement makes it easier for users to quickly identify and correct issues before resubmitting the form.

Clearer Required Field Error Messages (WCAG 3.3.1 – Error Identification, Level A):

Required field validation now displays clear text-based error messages that are programmatically associated with the related fields. This enhancement helps users understand what went wrong, how to fix it, and which fields need attention before submitting the form.
