Cybersource .p12 File Requirement Update

Encompass now supports Cybersource's new certificate format requirement. All Cybersource payment gateway configurations must now use a .p12 certificate file to ensure secure transaction processing. This change is required by Cybersource and must be completed by all clients using Cybersource as their payment processor as of August 13, 2025.

What has changed?

Cybersource has transitioned from older certificate formats to requiring a .p12 certificate file. Encompass has updated its gateway configuration interface to accept this file type. You will see a required field labeled Cybersource Certificate (.p12) when configuring or editing a Cybersource gateway. Only .p12 files are accepted. If another file type is selected, you will receive a message: "Only .p12 files are allowed. Please select a p12 file."

As part of the transition to .p12-based authentication in the SOAP Toolkit for C#, the Encompass interface now includes the ability for users to securely upload and manage .p12 client certificate files used for secure communication.

Action Required

Clients must generate a .p12 certificate file from their Cybersource Business Center. (https://ebc.cybersource.com/ebc2/ )

Note

Encompass Support cannot obtain this file on your behalf. For security reasons, the file must be generated and downloaded by the client from their Cybersource account.

How to Obtain Your Cybersource .p12 Certificate

  • Log in to your Cybersource Business Center.

  • Navigate to Payment Configuration > Key Management.

  • Generate a new key.

  • Select .p12 (Java KeyStore) format.

  • Download the certificate and store it in a secure location.

For additional help with generating the file, Cybersource provides detailed documentation here: https://developer.cybersource.com/docs/cybs/en-us/platform/developer/all/rest/rest-getting-started/restgs-jwt-message-intro/restgs-security-p12-intro/restgs-security-P12.html

Applying the Certificate in Encompass

Once you have the .p12 file:

  • If you are an Encompass Payment Gateway Admin, you may upload the file directly via the gateway setup screen.

  • If you are not a Payment Gateway Admin, please contact Encompass Support. Our team will be happy to assist you in applying the certificate file to your gateway configuration.

CyberSource Gateway UI and Integration Enhancements

To support this transition, the Encompass platform now includes a file upload action button that will allow you to apply your .p12 certificate files.

Encompass will validate that the uploaded file is in the correct .p12 format. You will receive immediate feedback on the success or failure of the upload.

Additional Notes

The file must be uploaded exactly as downloaded. Do not rename or modify the extension.

Enter the password you created during the Cybersource key generation process into the Password field.

Your Merchant ID and Username credentials that currently exist can stay as part of the configuration.
