Transparency and Automatic Access

Outcomes is designed to be semi-transparent. Anyone with access to the site can click through every institutional hierarchy unit, including units where they have not been assigned permission. In those unassigned units, a user can view the written learning outcome statements only. They cannot view assessments or results.

For example, a faculty member with Creator access in the College of Arts and Sciences could click into the College of Business and read the learning outcomes written there, but would not be able to see any assessments or results for that college.

If your institution uses the Instructors file within Core Data or data is synced directly to Outcomes from the Blackboard LMS, instructors automatically receive Creator permissions for the course sections to which they are assigned in that file. Because this Creator access comes from the course section assignment itself and not from an administrator, it updates as sections are assigned or reassigned, and it removes the need to assign Creator access to every instructor manually. On the Permissions page it appears as Implicit Access, which lists individual course sections rather than institutional hierarchy units.
