User Roles and Permissions
Outcomes controls access through user roles and permission levels, so institutions can ensure the right users have the right access. Each role defines a specific set of actions and views available to a user: the role assigned to a person determines what they can do and what they can see within the site.
Assigning a permission involves two decisions: which role the person receives, and which institutional hierarchy unit(s) that role applies to. Because every role is scoped to a unit, access can be granted as broadly or as narrowly as your structure requires, giving you granular control across the institutional hierarchy. Those assignments are always viewed within a time period: the Time Periods control on the Permissions page determines which version of your institution's structure appears, since some units, sub-levels, and programs exist only in certain academic years.
