Administrator Insight Report
The insight report for administrators presents storage, user, and course data on your Blackboard instance over a selected time period. Where available, the report displays the Minimum, Maximum, Average, and Current values for each metric over the selected time period.
Note
Average values are calculated using the mean value. For example, to calculate the average daily page views for a 30-day period, Blackboard will add together every daily page view total and then divide that sum by 30.
On the Administrator Panel in the Tools and Utilities section, select Insight Report.
Set the Start Date and End Date for your report.
Important
The Start Date must be in the past, and the End Date must occur after the Start Date. Please consult each report section for the earliest dates data is available.
Select Run Report.
Use the Disk Space Unit menu to change the unit Disk Space Usage metrics are presented in. You can choose: bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, and terabytes.
Reading a report
Insight reports contain 7 distinct sections of related metrics.
Object counts
The Object counts section presents total numbers of users and courses. Data is available from April 2018 on.
Total Users | All enabled and disabled user accounts |
Available Users | All user accounts that can log in (enabled and available) |
Active Users | All enabled users with access to an available course |
Total Courses | All available and unavailable courses |
Total Organizations | All available and unavailable organizations |
Site activity
The Site activity section presents total counts of site activity metrics. Data is available from April 2018 on.
Daily Page Views | All pages viewed by all users |
Daily Course Page Views | All course pages viewed by all users |
Daily Sessions | All system-created sessions, including mobile. Not necessarily associated with a login event. |
Daily Logins | All successful user logins, including mobile |
Daily Failed Logins | All login attempts where username and password didn't match an existing user |
Overall disk space usage
The Overall disk space usage section presents the disk space used in Blackboard-defined storage areas of your Blackboard instance. Data is available from April 2020 on.
Shared Content Folder | Blackboard files not stored in the content collection |
Content System: All Files | Blackboard files in the content collection, including deleted files inaccessible to users |
Content System: Deleted Files | Files that are in the deferred-deletion status |
Content System: Logs | System log files stored in the administrator internal folder |

Note
Deferred deletion isn't the same as Recycling Bins and applies even if recycling bins aren't enabled.
Disk space usage by file type
The Disk space usage by file type section presents the disk space used by groups of file types stored in the content repository. Types are based on file extensions registered at https://www.iana.org/. Data is available from April 2020 on.

If you would like to change the unit Disk Space Usage metrics are presented in, you can use the Disk Space Unit menu. You can choose units in multiples of 1000: bytes, kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), and terabytes (TB).
File counts by file type
The File counts by file type section presents total counts of groups of file types stored in the content repository. Types are based on file extensions registered at https://www.iana.org/. Data is available from April 2020 on.

Content system internal usage
The Content system internal usage section presents total counts of logs and auto-archives stored on your Blackboard instance. Data is available from April 2020 on.

Auto-Archived Courses and Organizations | Courses and organizations with one or more system-created auto-archives |
Other metrics
Data is available from April 2, 2018 on.
Total logins for 90 days before, and including, the selected end date | The sum of all logins for a 90-day period ending on the report's end date. For best results, select an end date that occurred before the day you run your report. |
Ultra course usage
The Ultra course usage section presents total numbers for the adoption of the Ultra Course View on your Blackboard instance. Data is available from April 2020 on.
