Sharing Open Badges on LinkedIn

LinkedIn does not natively support importing Open Badges. However, there are three ways to display an Open Badge you've earned on your LinkedIn.com profile.

Option #1: Adding a badge to your profile as a LinkedIn post:

  1. Log in to Achievement Studio.

  2. Select the Badges page.

  3. Select the badge to share on LinkedIn.

  4. Select New Share Link.

  5. This generates a URL with share options for X (Twitter), Facebook, and LinkedIn

  6. Select the LinkedIn icon. You’ll be prompted to log into your LinkedIn account.

  7. After you authenticate, select Share in a post.

  8. Choose the audience to share your badge with from the menu.

  9. You can choose to add your own commentary or description of the badge. You can also add hashtags.

  10. Select Post.

  11. Based on the viewing permissions you previously set, people will now be able to interact with your post. Anyone who selects the badge image will be taken to a page on Achievement Studio that verifies and displays your badge award.

There are two other places on your LinkedIn profile where you can share your badge.

Option #2: Certifications

Note this option ONLY works if the badge you received is from an organization that has a presence on LinkedIn.

  1. Log in to https://linkedin.com.

  2. Go to your profile by selecting Me on the home page.

  3. Select View Profile.

  4. Select Add profile section.

  5. In the Recommended section, select Licenses & Certifications.

  6. On the Add license or certification form, enter the name, issuing organization. You can optionally include the issue month and year you received the badge. The Issuing organization field requires you to select from organizations with a registered presence on LinkedIn.

  7. Log in to Achievement Studio.

  8. Select the Badges page.

  9. Select the badge to share on LinkedIn.

  10. Select New Share Link.

  11. This generates a URL with share options for X (Twitter), Facebook, and LinkedIn. Copy the URL.

  12. Enter the Share Link URL to your badge on Achievement Studio in the input field labeled Credential URL.

  13. Select Save.

Option #3: Honors & Awards

This option works if the badge you received is from an organization that does NOT have a presence on LinkedIn.

  1. Log in to https://linkedin.com.

  2. Go to your profile by selecting Me on the home page.

  3. Select View Profile.

  4. Select Add profile section.

  5. In the Additional menu, select an item called "Honors & Awards" (you may need to add this section to your profile if it wasn’t already there).

  6. On the “Add honors & awards” form that will appear, enter the “Title” and optionally “Associated with” (indicating which current/past job your badge was connected to), “Issuer” (i.e., the organization that gave you the badge), and issue month and year.

  7. In the input field labeled "Description", optionally enter any commentary or description of the badge, but then also enter the Share Link URL to your badge on AchievementStudio.com. Please note that LinkedIn does NOT make URLs in this description field a clickable hyperlink, so people viewing your profile will have to copy and paste it into their web browsers to view your badge details.
