Performance Results Scale Examples
The Performance Results Scale defines how learning outcomes are evaluated and reported across the institution. This shared scale ensures consistent interpretation of outcomes data while allowing flexibility at the assessment and assignment level to support meaningful, faculty-aligned measurement. A single Performance Results Scale is used institution-wide for scale structure and labels, with performance thresholds configurable at lower levels, enabling results to be viewed at the course and student level and aggregated across programs, subjects, and the institution over time. By combining an institutional scale with adjustable thresholds, institutions can maintain data consistency while respecting disciplinary differences and instructional design needs. Engaging faculty, assessment leaders, and academic governance early in defining scale language and defaults builds trust in the data, improves adoption, and strengthens outcomes reporting across the institution.
With Outcomes, institutions can define—and update—their Performance Results Scale each annual term, using two to five scale units. Below are examples of commonly used performance results scales to illustrate typical approaches; however, scale labels and structure are fully customizable so institutions can adopt the model that best aligns with their academic culture, assessment practices, and reporting needs.
