Navigate Learning Modules with JAWS
Learning Modules are containers for organized collections of content. Instructors may use Learning Modules to align course content with a textbook or to guide you through a sequence of learning activities.
Navigate to a Learning Module
Each Learning Module in Blackboard LMS creates a region that has the same name as the module. You can skip to any module by calling the Regions/Landmarks menu.
Select Insert + Ctrl + R.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the module you want.
Select Enter.
Select Tab.
Select Enter.
Alternatively, at the top level of Course Content, Learning Modules are typically announced as heading level 3. You can call the Headings menu to navigate to a specific module.
Select Insert + F6.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the module you want.
Select Enter twice.
Navigate the content in a Learning Module
Learning Modules can contain many different types of content. In general, the best way to navigate them is to move to a Learning Module using the heading level 3 and region structure described in the previous section. Once there, use the arrow keys to move through the content in order.
To open a content item, select the item and select Enter. The content opens in a separate window. There is a menu on the left side of the window that represents other content within the same course module. This menu exists in a region/landmark called Course Navigation. You can find this in JAWS by selecting Insert + Ctrl + R.
Use the H key to navigate through the headings to discover the content.
Interact with the content according to what type of content it is, such as a document, a discussion, or an assignment.
You can access this content within the same module without going back to Course Content. Each item not currently selected in the current module is a button, and you can open the Buttons menu by selecting Insert + Ctrl + B. Items related to course content begin with "navigate to."
If you have not selected content to interact with, or if you want to enter a different module, continue navigating content through heading level 3 and regions/landmarks based on the regular Course Content order.
Close the content in a Learning Module
To close any type of content you are in within the module:
Select Insert + Ctrl + B.
Select the down arrow key until you reach the Close button.
Select Enter twice.
This returns you to the Course Content main landing page, where you can resume normal course content navigation through heading level 3 and regions/landmarks.
