Navigate to Your Courses with JAWS
You can use the JAWS screen reader to navigate Blackboard LMS. Use the procedures on this page to find your courses from the main navigation or switch between courses when you're inside a course.
Access the courses link
When you first log into Blackboard, you will find a link called Courses in the Main Navigation Region/Landmark. To access this link in JAWS:
Select Insert + Ctrl + R to call the regions/landmarks menu.
Select the down arrow key until you reach Main Navigation.
Select Enter.
Select the down arrow key until you reach Courses.
Select Enter.
OR
Select Insert + F7 to call the links menu.
Select the down arrow key until you reach Courses.
Press Enter.
Locate courses
Once courses are loaded successfully (which will be announced by the software), all course names are both heading level 4 and links. Because there are links on this page that are not courses, but all courses are heading level 4, it is best to use heading to locate courses. Anything ending in ":4", announced as "colon four," is a course you can access.
To locate courses:
Use H to select the headings one at a time.
Select Enter to open a course when its name is spoken.
OR
Select Insert + F6 to call the headings menu.
Select the down arrow key to move through courses.
Select Enter to open a course when its name is spoken.
Use the course switcher
When you are inside a course, there is a button in the Banner region that is labeled Courses. You can use this button to enter another recently visited course without returning to the main menu. It loads a small flyout panel that includes a menu of recent or favorite courses, as well as a Search bar to find other courses. From this short menu, you can go directly to one of those courses or return to the Courses page by using the View All link.
Select Insert + Ctrl + B to call the buttons menu.
Select the down arrow key until you reach Courses button.
Select Enter twice.
You will hear "Your Courses Heading Level One." Select Tab to cycle through the View All link, the Close button, the Search bar, the Course Switcher tabs, and your four most recent courses.
Search for a course: Use the Search bar to find any course that you have access to.
Browse recent and favorite courses: Move between the Recent and Favorites tabs using the left and right arrow keys. Each course is a link, titled with the he course ID, the course name, and the course status.
Return to the Courses page: Select the View All link.
