Navigate to Your Courses with JAWS
Access the courses link
When you first log into Blackboard, you will find a link called Courses in the Main Navigation Region/Landmark. To access this link in JAWS:
Select Insert + Control + R to call the regions/landmarks menu.
Select the down arrow key to reach Main Navigation.
Select Enter.
Select the down arrow key to reach Courses.
Select Enter.
OR
Select Insert + F7 to call the links menu.
Select the down arrow key to reach Courses.
Press Enter.
Locate courses
Once courses are loaded successfully (which will be announced by the software), all course names are both header level 4 and links. Because there are links on this page that are not courses, but all courses are header level 4, it is best to use headers to locate courses. Anything ending in ":4", announced as "colon four," is a course you can access.
To locate courses:
Use H to select the headers one at a time.
Select Enter to open a course when its name is spoken.
OR
Select Insert + F6 to call the headers menu.
Select the down arrow key to move through courses.
Select Enter to open a course when its name is spoken.
Using the course switcher
When you are inside a course, there is a button in the Banner region that is called Courses button. You can use this button to enter another recently visited course without returning to the main menu. It loads a short menu of recent courses. From this short menu, you can go directly to one of those courses or return to the Courses page by using the View All link.
To use the course switcher with JAWS:
Select Insert + Control + R to call the regions/landmarks menu.
Select the down arrow key to reach Banner.
Select Enter.
Select the up or down arrow key to reach Courses button.
Select Enter.
OR
Select Insert + Control + B to call the buttons menu.
Select the down arrow key to reach Courses button.
Select Enter.
You will hear "Your Courses Heading Level One." Select Tab to cycle through your four most recent courses, the View All link, and the Close button. The course ID, the course name, and the course status are all header level 3. Course names are both headers and links. Select the View All link to return to the Courses page.
