Participate in Discussions with JAWS
Discussions are always links in course content. Once you are in a discussion, navigate through heading 2 and heading 3 levels with the up arrow and down arrow keys.
Select H to cycle through the headings.
OR
Select Insert + F6 to call the headings menu.
Heading level 2 will always be the top and is called Discussion Topic. To find the description of the discussion, select the down arrow key from Discussion Topic. Heading level 3 will always be the name of the person associated with an individual contribution in a discussion.
Make an initial post
To make your first post in a discussion topic:
From the heading level 2 Discussion Topic, select the down arrow key until you enter "Forms Mode," just past the description of the discussion. You will hear a boop up sound to indicate you are in forms mode.
Enter your discussion post.
Select Tab until you hear the screen reader say Post.
Select Enter.
Reply to an individual
The name of everyone that has posted in a discussion is a heading level 3. To reply to an individual:
Select Insert + F6 to call the heading menu.
Select the down arrow key until you find the person's name.
Select Enter.
Use the down arrow key to read what they have shared until you reach the Reply button.
Select Enter to go into "Forms Mode" and enter your reply.
Select Tab until you hear the screen reader say Reply.
Select Enter.
Return to course content
When you have finished interacting with a discussion, to return to course content:
Select Ctrl + Insert + B.
Select the down arrow key to reach the Close button.
Select Enter twice.
