Engage

Walkthrough: Points Leaderboard

The Points feature within Engage provides powerful reporting tools that help administrators track and celebrate student and organizational engagement. This guide outlines how to access and use these tools effectively, ensuring you get the most out of your Points program.

Accessing Points Reporting

To begin, navigate to the Admin tab in Engage, then select the “Paths and Points” dropdown menu at the top bar. Click on the Points Dashboard to view your reporting options.

Key Reporting Tools
  • Points Leaderboard: Shows overall rankings of users and organizations based on the points they’ve earned in your Points program.

  • Engagement Data Tab: Provides an overview of how points are distributed across your institution’s engagement platform.

Overview of the Leaderboard

The Leaderboard is a key feature in Engage that allows you to track and compare student and organization achievements based on the Points they’ve accumulated. Accessible through the admin view, the Leaderboard provides a dynamic way to recognize top-performing students and organizations within your institution.

How the Leaderboard Populates Data

As students begin to earn Points, both your Leaderboard and Points dashboard will start displaying relevant data. The Leaderboard highlights the top ten placements—the students or organizations with the highest Points totals at your institution.

Minimum Participation Requirement

To ensure meaningful competition, the Leaderboard requires at least ten users who have earned Points before it will display rankings. Once this threshold is met, the top ten placements will automatically populate.

Ranking Rules and Tie Scenarios
  • Top Ten Focus: The Leaderboard displays only the students who occupy the top ten placements based on Points earned.

  • Handling Ties: If multiple users have the same number of Points and are tied for a specific rank within the top ten, they will share the same line on the Leaderboard. This means there can be more than ten users displayed if there are ties.

  • Identifying Tied Users: When a placement has tied users, you’ll see one student’s name along with a note indicating the number of additional users sharing that rank. Hovering over the displayed name will reveal the full list of students who hold that placement.

Organization Leaderboard

In addition to the Top 10 placements of students, Engage offers a top ten leaderboard for organizations. This setting will show which groups have the most active and engaged membership based on cumulative points earned by users on the organization’s roster.

Future planned enhancements to this feature will include the ability to filter organizations by Organization Type and/or Organization Category. This will support fair recognition and highlight organizations in newsletters or social media posts, especially during major celebrations or end-of-year events. Stay tuned for more updates!

Best Practices for Using the Leaderboard
  • Recognize and encourage top-performing students through messages, social media shout-outs, or special experiences on campus.

  • Consider special recognition—such as lunch with campus leadership or event invitations—for students who reach the top ten at key moments, like the end of a semester or after major campus events.

  • Use the leaderboard data to inspire broader student engagement and set positive examples for campus involvement.

Conclusion

The Points reporting options in Engage empower administrators to track progress, celebrate achievements, and promote engagement campus-wide. By using these tools and best practices, you can strengthen co-curricular involvement and build a vibrant campus community.
