Avoiding Missed Points
Welcome to your journey in creating an engaging and successful Points program at your institution! A well-structured program can drive participation, reward involvement, and foster community spirit. This guide is designed to help you navigate common pitfalls and ensure each step of your implementation is effective and rewarding.
Key Reminders for How Points are Earned
Points are awarded based on the criteria of an Event the moment attendance is tracked. The system only recognizes and allocates points at the exact moment a participant’s attendance is recorded for an eligible event.
If an event’s qualifying details (such as its category) are missing or incorrect when attendance is marked, points will not be awarded—even if you update the event later.
Best Practices to Avoid Missed Points
Guide users to point-earning opportunities. Encourage participants to check the “Earn Points” widget on their dashboards. If an event appears there, it is fully configured and will award points. If an event does not appear under “Earn Points”, it does not meet the current criteria. Update the event’s settings before tracking attendance to ensure participants are rewarded.
Set up events carefully before tracking attendance. Double-check that each event meets the criteria defined in your Points activity rules before the event occurs. For example, make sure required categories or tags are present.
Understand limitations on retroactive edits. If you add or change an event’s qualifiers after attendance has been tracked, those who attended earlier will not retroactively receive points for that activity.
Points cannot be manually awarded. The current system does not support manually adding points. All points are awarded automatically based on the established criteria and timing of attendance.
Remember, every new program comes with a learning curve. By following these best practices and making use of the provided troubleshooting tools, you’ll set your Points program up for lasting success and smooth operation. Stay positive, double-check your event setups, and don’t hesitate to review your criteria if things aren’t working as expected—you’re building a more rewarding campus experience for everyone!
