Copy Content from Other Courses
Creating content for your courses takes time and thoughtful planning. If you teach multiple courses that use similar content, you may want to copy content items and folders between courses to save time. In the Ultra Course View, you can copy content from other courses you teach so you don't have to start with a blank slate.
You can copy entire courses or select individual items from other courses you’re currently teaching or have taught in the past. You can also combine items from multiple courses with a full course copy or individual item copies by selecting them.
Note
This information also applies to organizations.
Choose what to copy
Copy an Entire Course Copies everything and keeps settings such as due dates, visibility, and release conditions.
Copy Individual Course Items Copies only the content, discussions, question banks, rubrics, or grade schemes you select. Copied items are hidden from students, and release conditions aren't kept.
Copy from the Original Course View Shows how Original content converts to Ultra and which content types aren't supported.
Choose where to start the copy
You can start a copy from the More Options menu or from the plus (+) button on the Course Content page. Both open the same list of courses. The difference is where your copied content appears.
More option menu | Plus (+) button | |
|---|---|---|
How to open it | On the Course Content page, select the More Options (...) menu, then select Copy Items. | Select the plus (+) button where you want the content to be located, then select Copy Content. |
Where copied content appears | At the bottom of the Course Content page | Where you selected the plus button |
If your copied content appears at the bottom of the page, you can drag it or use the keyboard to move it to where you want it.
Things to know before you copy
Participation data: Student participation data isn't copied.
Queued copies: Copies run in a queue. The spinner at the bottom of the Course Content page is a validation check, so you don't need to stay on the page. To check whether a copy is done, select the More options (...) menu, then select Course Tasks and Logs.
Issues and exceptions
If some content doesn't copy, an error report appears at the top of the Course Content page. Select View Exceptions to find out why.
On the Exceptions Report, select a category to see the items that weren't copied and a short explanation for each. Most exceptions don't need any action from you. For some, you need to create the item again in your course. For example, wikis aren't converted from Original courses to Ultra courses. For collaboration, you can use a Microsoft or Google integration instead.
