Browser Support

Note

When using a screen reader, we recommend using Chrome and JAWS or NVDA on Windows and using Safari and VoiceOver on a Mac .

Supported browsers

For Blackboard, Anthology supports Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge desktop and mobile browsers. All these browsers apply updates automatically for most users. Anthology makes every effort to support the most recent version upon release. These are the supported versions:

  • Google Chrome, most recent stable version and one preceding version.

  • Mozilla Firefox, most recent stable version and one preceding version.

  • Apple Safari for MacOS and iOS, current version and one preceding version.

  • Microsoft Edge, most recent stable version and one preceding version.

Blackboard does not require specific browser plug-ins, although added third-party content may require plug-ins to view. To learn more about Anthology's general browser support policy as well as information about Javascript, Cookies, and other software, see the Browser Support Policy.

Recent updates to several browsers have included changes to how the browser handles third-party cookies. These changes may affect tools from other providers that integrate with Blackboard. If you have trouble accessing an integrated tool after a browser upgrade, edit your browser’s settings to allow sites to save and read cookie data. You can find instructions for  Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge online.

Mobile app and mobile browser support

The Blackboard mobile app for iOS and Android works on mobile and tablet devices. It's compatible on devices running supported versions of their respective operating systems. Only the current version of the Blackboard App is supported. Users should always use the latest version.

In some cases, an older device can't be upgraded to a supported OS version which means it cannot run the most recent Blackboard App. Sometimes these devices can run a supported mobile browser version according to the supported browser policy above. In this circumstance, we recommend using a mobile web browser instead of the Blackboard App.

Some Original Experience user interfaces in Blackboard haven't been updated to be fully responsive for handheld devices. These interfaces include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Enterprise surveys management and reporting

  • Goals manager and goals reporting

  • Content collection

  • Blackboard Outcomes Assessment
