Data Management Types
The following sections address the main Data Management file types and the key rules for setting them up correctly from your institution's SIS. The goal is to design imports so that data is accurate, consistent, well-linked, and correctly timed to help avoid errors and support reliable reporting and analytics.
Academic Programs group courses for reporting and should not typically be automated. Course identifiers must be unique within each program.
Academic Terms define the term structure and hierarchy. Create terms only as needed and validate them carefully, because they cannot be deleted once created.
Accounts must include all required users, use a consistent PersonIdentifier, and include valid email addresses. Mismatches can create duplicate or failed records.
Attributes act as tags on sections for evaluation and analysis. They are additive and should align with section identifiers.
Courses should use clear, stable identifiers, map correctly to organizational units, and follow required value formats such as valid CIP codes.
Instructors must link correctly to both sections and person records, with logic for role assignment and timing of updates.
Organizational Units define the reporting hierarchy and require correct parent-child structure and identifiers.
Sections are central to linking terms, courses, instructors, and enrollments. They require strong identifier logic, valid delivery mode mapping, and clear term timing.
