Work with Reports
Occupation Insight Explorer reports are the visual representation of meaningful labor market statistics and job posting data that can be tied back to your institutions academic data for programs, courses, and skills to help students in preparing for their future career. Additional reports leveraging only the labor market data are also available out of the box.
This section provides users with basic instructions on how to view and manage reports within Occupation Insight. For more advanced Power BI information, refer to the Microsoft information provided in the Resources section.
Reading Mode and Editing Mode
There are two modes for viewing and interacting with reports.
-
Reading mode
-
Editing mode
The reading mode is associated with the Reader role, while the editing mode is available to users with the Contributor permissions. See Access and Authentication.
Reading mode is available to all users and is especially designed for data consumers, while editing mode is only available to report creators and owners.
Report users can view:
-
The list of your Occupation Insight reports
-
A report embedded on the Occupation Insight report page
Reading mode ensures that every consumer is seeing the same report, the same visualizations, and optionally with the same filters applied. Consumers can interact with the reports, can change the existing filters, but cannot add new filters.
Report owners can view, create, edit, save, delete, and publish reports. For example, they can:
-
Add and remove data fields and filters
-
Change visualization types
-
Create new visualizations
-
Add and delete pages from the report
They can then share the reports they create with colleagues via Occupation Insight, or with students and faculty via the embed behavior on the portal.
For detailed instructions, see the Occupation Insight Administration and Configuration Guide at https://help.anthology.com/Content/DocSets/OIDocSet.htm.
Desktop View and Mobile View
Occupation Insight leverages the capability of Power BI embed to view Power BI reports in a mobile layout. On the Home Page you can toggle back and forth between viewing Occupation Insight reports in Mobile or Desktop layouts.
When logging into Occupation Insight, the app will detect the user's device type and default the view selection to either Desktop or Mobile accordingly.
Note the following related to Mobile and Desktop report view selections and viewing reports in Occupation Insight:
-
Accessing a report with Mobile view selected
-
If a mobile layout exists for the report, the report will be rendered in mobile layout.
-
If a mobile layout does not exist, the report will be rendered in desktop layout.
-
-
Accessing a report with Desktop view selected
-
Irrespective of whether a mobile layout exists for the report, the report will be rendered in desktop layout.
-
Power BI embed currently only supports the viewing of reports in a mobile layout. Until such time that Microsoft makes this functionality available, Edit and New report options are disabled when Mobile view is selected. To Edit or create a New report, Desktop view must be selected.
