You can use the conditional merge feature to refine the text sent to specific audience segments in a Campaign Mailer. The conditions can be defined in an Offer inserted in a Mailer, or in the Mailer itself.

Example

Consider a case where all residents of New York and Washington are requested to contact specific phone numbers for more information about a Talisma Seminar. In the message area of the Mailer window, type a message and personalize the message by inserting appropriate Contact properties and conditions. The condition specified in the Conditional Mail Merge dialog box can be: If Contact State is "NY", in the Insert this text area, type "Please contact us at 631-34223."

Specify the next condition in the Conditional Mail Merge dialog box as: If Contact State is "WA", in the Insert this text area type "Please contact us at 206-34223".

To Insert a Conditional Merge into a Mailer

1.  Open the Template Manager.

2.  Open the required Mailer.

3.  Position the cursor in the Message area of the Mailer.

4.  From the Insert menu, select Conditional Merge. The Conditional Merge dialog box is displayed. You can define one or more conditions in the Conditional Merge dialog box.

◦   In the Object column, you can select the Object with which you are currently working, a Relationship created for the selected Object, Events, or PropertyChanges. Click More to select an Object that is related to a related Object. For example, Select "Contacts".

◦   In the Field column, select the Property of the selected Object. For example, Select "Address-State".

◦   In the Operator column, select the appropriate operator. For example, Select "contains".

◦   In the Value column, type or select the value to be located. For example, Select "NY".

◦   In the Insert this text area, type:

"Dear <Contact First Name>,

The discount in your area is 10%"

◦   In the And/Or column, select And to specify that the search needs to satisfy all the conditions specified on each row. Select Or to specify that the search can satisfy one, or more conditions specified in any row. Specify conditions on successive rows to define multiple conditions for the merge.

Example

Specify the second condition as:

•   Object Contact

•   Field Address-State

•   Operator contains

•   Value WA

•   In the Insert this text area, type:

"Dear <Contact First Name>,

The discount in your area is 20%".

5.  Click OK.

The condition defined in the Conditional Merge dialog box is inserted at the cursor position in the Mailer.
