Enabling Campaign Support

For an object, when campaign support is enabled, the Desktop Client user can use the object as the base object in a campaign.

By default, campaign support is enabled for the contact object.

You can also enable campaign support for the following objects:

•   Application

•   Enrollment

•   Lead

•   Goal

•   Academic Progress

•   Course History

•   Custom Objects - Campaign support can be enabled if the object shares a one-to-one or one-to-many relationship with the contact object, where the contact object is on the one side of the relationship.

Once enabled, campaign support cannot be disabled.

The following functionality is also enabled when you enable campaign support:

•   Preference support

This refers to functionality in which information is collected prior to communicating with targets about their preferred media of campaign notification. The available media are email, letter, and SMS. To enable this behavior, you need to create categories and groups. For more information, see Managing Contact Preferences.

In campaigns, the target's preferences are set in the Preferences tab. This verification is performed for the following campaign actions:

◦   Send mailer

◦   Send SMS

◦   Create Letter

◦   Create Label

You are required to enable preferences for an object so that communication preferences can apply to items of the object as they progress in a campaign. For more information, see Desktop Client Help and Web Client Help.

•   Support for logging communication history in campaigns

This refers to functionality where the history of all communication with a target is logged in the Campaign Communication tab of the base object. To enable this behavior, the value of the Enable logging communication history in campaign actions option in the Global Options page must be set to Yes. For information about this option, see Enable logging communication history in campaign actions.

As a result of enabling these settings, the Log communication history check box can be selected in Desktop Client in the following campaign steps: Create Label, Create Letter, Export Records, Send mailer and Send SMS. For more information, see Desktop Client Help.

To Enable Campaign Support

1.  Click the Objects node in the navigation pane.

2.  In the results pane, select the object for which you want to enable campaign support.

3.  Click Feature Support. The Feature Support dialog box is displayed.

4.  Select the Campaign Support check box.

In the Relationship drop-down list, one-to-one and one-to-many relationships that the contact shares with the selected object are displayed. However, when you enable campaign support for the Academic Progress, Course History, Enrollment, Goal, Lead, and Test Score objects, only the Link to Contact relationship is available for selection.

5.   Select a relationship and click Save. A message is displayed prompting you to confirm that support will be enabled permanently.

6.  Click OK.

Campaign support is enabled for the object, and the value in the Campaign column in the results pane is set to Yes.

Note

•   The Campaign Support check box will be disabled if campaign support cannot be enabled for the object.

•   When campaign support is enabled:

◦   A new permission in the <Object name> format is created as a child permission under the Manage Campaign permission. To work with campaigns based on a particular object, ensure that the corresponding Manage Campaign object-level permission is enabled.

To work with the object in campaigns, the user must sign off and sign on to Desktop Client.

◦   In Desktop Client and Web Client, the Campaign Communication tab is displayed in the base object.

•   If campaign and preference support were enabled in a previous version, the Campaign Support check box is selected and the relationship that was previously selected also applies in the current version to campaign, preference and campaign communication support.

•   If only campaign support was enabled in a previous version for the Lead, Enrollment, Goal, Academic Progress and Course History objects, the Link to Contact relationship is selected along with the Campaign Support check box. This selection also applies to preference and campaign communication. For other objects for which only campaign support was previously enabled, you need to select a relationship from the relationship list.

To work with the preferences feature, in Desktop Client and Web Client, the Preferences tab is displayed in the Contact Object by default. No other changes specific to preferences occur in a custom object when campaign support is enabled.
