SEVIS

You can use the SEVIS page to specify: 

  • Whether or not you want to exchange student data with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). For example, you can import files and transmit export files to SEVIS. 

  • How the students are selected (such as by campus or campus group)
  • The SEVIS certificate. It is checked during the process of import and export of SEVIS data using batch processing.

Prerequisites

To view the page, you must have Contact Manager – Settings – View authorization.

To specify or edit the configuration, you must have Contact Manager – Settings – Manage authorization.

Your institution must have a customer agreement that is approved. An example can be found at https://www.ice.gov/doclib/sevis/pdf/CustomerAgreement.pdf. If you have questions, please the contact information for SEVIS at https://www.ice.gov/sevis/schools/sevis.

You institution must have obtained Class-1 Digital certificate. For example, below are type of certificates from certificate issuing authority.

  • Sectigo (formerly Comodo) – Personal Authentication Certificate (PAC) is required. The free version email certificate will not work.

  • InCommon – InCommon Certificate Service subscription is required to issue Client Certificates
  • Entrust - Personal Secure Email Certificate

  • IdenTrust - Secure Email Certificate provides client authentication capabilities

You must also have logged into the SEVIS site and uploaded the certificate at https://egov.ice.gov/sbtsevis.

Your institution must also installed the certificate on the machine from where the CSR (Certificate Signing Request) is generated and then it should be exported to:

  • Base-64 encoded X.509 (.CER) format (Public key of your certificate. Log in to SEVIS site and upload.)

  • Personal Information Exchange – PKCS #12 (.p12 or .pfx) format (Private key of your certificate protected by a password)

Access Method

Select the Settings tile > expand Contact Manager > select SEVIS.

Procedure to Add or Edit Items

  1. Specify or change the following values.

    Enable SEVIS ExtractClosed Select Yes if you want to exchange student data with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). For example, you can import files and transmit export files to SEVIS. Otherwise, select No.

    SEVIS TransmissionClosed Select how the students are selected and included in the transmission. The options are Campus, Campus Group, Program Number or School Code.

     

  2. Enter a valid SEVIS Certificate PasswordClosed The valid alphanumeric value for the SEVIS certificate..

  3. Select the Choose Certificate button and select the .p12 or .pfx file.

    Anthology Student displays the name of the file in the SEVIS Authentication Certificate FileClosed Select the specific certificate file from the drive location. field.

  1. Review the default URLs and make any needed changes.

    SEVIS Upload (Export) URLClosed The URL where the eligibility forms are uploaded.

    SEVIS Download (Import) URLClosed The URL used to download files from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)

     

  2. Select the Save button on the toolbar.

    Anthology Student verifies the password and certificate. If the: 

    • Password and certificate are valid, displays a message indicating the save was successful. It also saves the SEVIS certificate and encrypts the password in the database.

    • Password or certificate is invalid, displays a message indicating the certificate is invalid. You must correct the password or certificate and save again.
