Configure Attendance Rules and Waitlist Options

Using the Attendance Rules and Waitlist page, you can update attendance rules, enable and configure the waitlist, and specify the options to automatically add a class section.

  • Under Attendance Rules, you can update auto drop rules, absence warnings, makeup hours, and student-specific attendance rules for the class section.

  • Under Waitlist/Auto Add Class Section, you can enable the waitlist and configure the maximum seats allowed in the waitlist for the class section. In addition, you can specify the automatic creation of new class sections based on the configured options.

Prerequisites

You must have:

  • Common - Processes - View authorization

  • To view the page, Academics - Class Scheduling - View authorization
  • To update attendance rules, enable and configure the waitlist, and specify the options to automatically add a class section, Academics - Class Scheduling - Edit authorization

For the Auto Add Class Section area to be displayed on the page, your institution must have: 

  • Configured your campuses to automatically add a class section (Select the Settings tile > expand System > select Campuses > add or select a campus > select the Academic Records tile > Scheduling & Attendance tab.)

  • Configured a delivery method to automatically add class sections (Select the Configuration tile > locate Academic Records > select Delivery Methods.)

  • Selected the delivery method for the class section (Select the Class Scheduling tile.)

If you want to automatically add class sections for the campus, you should be familiar with Automatically Add Class Sections.

Access Method

Select the Class Scheduling tile > select the on or more of the following filters > select Apply Filters > add or select the course in the Class Schedule list > select the Attendance Rules & Waitlist/Auto Add Class tile.

CampusClosed The campus or campuses to which a person or item is assigned. It is filtered to display the campuses to which you have access. In some cases, it is also used to filter a list to only those items for the campus. In some lists, you can select more than one campus or select All. In lists that display columns, if the column contains more than one campus, you cannot sort or filter on that column.

CourseClosed Select the code and name identifying the course the student is enrolled in. You can select one course at a time.

Course Offering Closed The Course Offering list enables you to filter courses based on Courses offered at the campus, Courses shared with other campuses, or Courses shared from other campuses.

DepartmentsClosed Lists all active departments. If the page has filters and Department is a filter, you can select up to 10 Departments at a time. The Departments filter in Class Schedule and the Departments property in Copy Class Schedule under Properties to Copy is visible only when you enable Faculty Workload Management. If the Department property is not selected during the Copy Class Schedule, Anthology Student displays a blank value in Department for the new Class Section.

InstructorClosed The primary instructor assigned to the course or class section.

TermsClosed Select the available terms with start and end dates for each term. You can select up to ten terms at a time.

The tile name changes based on whether Auto Add Class Section is configured for the course.

Procedure to Update Attendance Rules for a Class Section

  1. In Attendance Rules under Auto Drop After, specify the following items.

    Consecutive HoursClosed The number of consecutive hours that the student can be absent from the class after which the student will be considered as dropped.

    Cumulative HoursClosed The number of cumulative hours that the student can be absent from the class after which the student will be considered as dropped.

    Percentage AbsentClosed The percentage of hours that the student can be absent from the class after which the student will be considered as dropped. This is a value from 000.00 to 100.00. If the value is zero, there is no warning level based on percentage.

  2. In Absent Warning, specify the following items.

    Cumulative HoursClosed The number of cumulative hours that the student can be absent from the class after which the warning flag is set on the class section rosters.

    Consecutive HoursClosed The number of consecutive hours that the student can be absent from the class after which the warning flag is set on the class section rosters.

    Percentage AbsentClosed The percentage of hours that the student can be absent from the class after which the warning flag is set on the class section rosters. This is a value from 000.00 to 100.00. If the value is zero, there is no warning level based on percentage and rosters.

  3. In Makeup Hours, specify the following items.

    Maximum Makeup HoursClosed The maximum number of makeup hours permitted. The Makeup Hours fields are enabled only if you enable Allow Makeup Hours for the campus.

    ValueClosed The maximum value of class time that can be counted toward makeup hours.

  4. In Student Specific, specify the Meeting Duration in MinutesClosed The maximum number of minutes (per meeting) allowed as a default time for this class. This value is automatically populated if you select a meeting start and end time. Specify a numeric value between 1 and 999. This number represents a 'P' (present) value when posting attendance. For example, a class meets for 50 minutes and there is a ten minute break between classes, set the meeting length to 60 minutes to give the students credit for one hour of class time..

  1. If you want to save and: 

    • Continue making changes, select the Save button

    • Close, select the Save & Close button

Procedure to Update Waitlist Options for a Class Section

  1. If you want to waitlist a class section, specify the following values under Waitlist.

    Allow WaitlistClosed Select the check box to enable students to be placed on a waitlist. The Waitlist Maximum Seats field is enabled only if you select the Allow Waitlist check box.

    Waitlist Maximum SeatsClosed The maximum number of reservation seats allowed for the course.

  2. If you want to automatically add a class section, specify the following values under Auto Add Class Section.

    CriteriaClosed Select the criteria that Anthology Student uses to determine which maximum to use to automatically add a new class section. The options are Current Section and Waitlist.

    Maximum Class Sections to be AddedClosed Displays the number of automatic class sections that can be created for the class. This allows values between 0 and 999 to be entered. The value must also be less than the Waitlist Maximum Seats value.

    Remaining Seat Threshold Based OnClosed Select this check to automatically add cleass sections.

    Total Class Sections Added to DateClosed Displays the total number of class sections that have been automatically added for the class section. This field is read-only.

    ValueClosed Displays the threshold for the number of seats.
