Electronic Signatures vs. Digital Signatures
The terms digital signature and electronic signature are often used interchangeably. However, while digital signatures are a form of electronic signature, not all electronic signatures are digital signatures.
The main difference between the two is that:

Electronic signatures are often associated with a contract where the signer has the intention to sign the document or the contract.

Digital signatures are mainly used to secure documents and are authorized by certification authorities.
Electronic Signatures
Electronic signatures (or e-signatures) are an electronic sound, symbol, or process, attached to or logically associated with a contract or other record and executed or adopted by a person with the intent to sign the record. An e-signature is a digitized version of your handwritten signature. It can be used to indicate the intent to approve or accept the contents of a document.
E-signatures’ greatest advantage is that they are easy to use. They allow users to sign documents online with the click of a mouse, or trace their handwritten signature using a finger or a stylus.
Digital Signatures
A digital signature—a type of electronic signature—is a mathematical algorithm routinely used to validate the authenticity and integrity of a message (e.g., an email, a credit card transaction, or a digital document). Digital signatures create a virtual fingerprint that is unique to a person or entity and are used to identify users and protect information in digital messages or documents. Digital signatures are significantly more secure than other forms of electronic signatures.
There are typically three algorithms involved with the digital signature process:

Key generation – This algorithm provides a private key along with its corresponding public key.

Signing – This algorithm produces a signature upon receiving a private key and the message that is being signed.

Verification – This algorithm checks for the authenticity of the message by verifying it along with the signature and public key.
