Configuring a New Test Score Type
By default, scores can be input for the following test types:
- SAT
- ACT
- GRE
- GMAT
- TOEFL
- IELTS
This topic describes a framework to create records of tests that are not included in the above list. You need to create new test type records and their forms in the following scenarios:
- When the pattern of assessment in any of the above tests changes
- When you want to create new stand-alone test types
- When you want to create new tests that are associated with each other, and equivalent scores of the latter test are displayed in the former test record, and vice versa.
When the pattern of assessment of any of the above test scores changes, it's recommended to create a new test type that includes a framework to input the updated test score. For example, you would create a new test type called SAT_NEW if its assessment pattern changes from the current maximum score of 1600 to a new maximum score of 1000.
Creating a new Test Type and getting users to work with it to input Test Scores is a three-step process:
-
Step 1 - Creating a Test Type Record
-
Step 2 - Creating a Form for the New Test Type
-
Step 3 - Updating the Test Score - Concatenate Workflow
-
Step 4 (Optional) - Creating Test Score Conversion Records
Type appropriate values in the following fields:
- Test Type Name
- Source Attribute - All fields in which the final score of a test is stored are available for selection. The value stored in the selected field will be considered for conversion to the targeted test score.
- Target Attribute - All fields in which the final score of a test is stored are available for selection. The value stored in the selected field will be the converted score and will be based on logic defined in records of the Test Score Conversion Table.
Note: Values in the Source Attribute and Target Attribute fields are required to convert the test score to an equivalent score in a different test. Ignore these fields if you are creating a stand-alone test type. However, if your business scenario requires the usage of these fields, ensure that you design the test forms to display the equivalent score in the latter test in the form of the former test, and vice versa.
The user performing this task must have the role of a system administrator.
- Navigate to the Entities node in your solution.
- Click the Forms node in the Test Score entity.
- Open an active form, and then do the following:
- Type the name of the newly created test type as the name of the form.
- Edit the fields and layout of the form to match the requirements of the new test type.
- To save the form, click Save As.
Note: You can clear the display of a specific form and its associated test type by deactivating the form and its associated test type.
Perform this step to display information of the new test type in the Test Score Value column of the Test Score grid. The total score and the score in each component of the new test type will be concatenated and displayed in the Test Score Value column.
-
Navigate to Settings > Processes, and open the Test Score - Concatenate process.
-
Click Deactivate.
-
In the General tab, scroll to the bottom of the page.
-
In the Add Step list, select Update Record and perform steps to include details of the new test type.
-
Save the updated workflow and then click Activate.
After saving the Test Type record, you can create Test Score Conversion records to convert a source test score to an equivalent test score. Specify minimum and maximum values in the source test and their equivalent converted values in the targeted test.
Ensure that you create Test Score Conversion records to fulfill all conversion scenarios from the source test score to the targeted test score.
Usage Scenarios
The SAT test currently has the following sections:
- Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
- Math
The format is changed from the current admissions cycle to include an additional section, Analytical Reasoning, There is no other change in the format. To enable the conversion of the new SAT format to an equivalent ACT score, perform the following steps:
- Create a new Test Type record and call it SAT_New.
- In the same record, create Test Score Conversion records that will enable conversion of scores from the SAT_New test to the ACT test
- Create a form for the SAT_New test.
When you create SAT_New test records, equivalent ACT scores will be displayed in the ACT Equivalent Score field.
Two new test types, Test_A and Test_B, are introduced in the current admissions cycle. Scores in either test are considered or institutions also consider an equivalent score, i.e., the equivalent score in Test_B is considered, and Test_A scores are not considered. Similarly, the equivalent score in Test_A is considered, and Test_B scores are not considered. To enable this scenario, perform the following steps
- Create the following Test Type records: Test_A and Test_B.
- Create Test Score Conversion records in each Test Type. These ensure that scores of the latter test are automatically converted and displayed when scores are specified in the former test.
