About Campaign Dispatchers

A campaign dispatcher is used in campaigns to send out SMS and Email type of Mailers to Targets. A campaign dispatcher configured for Email type of Mailers is associated with an e-mail address on the SMTP mail server from which Mailers are dispatched. This e-mail address is used to authenticate the SMTP mail server.

Desktop Client users can dispatch SMS and Email type of Mailers only if a campaign dispatcher has been configured in Database Administrator. A single server can have multiple campaign dispatchers, thereby distributing the job of dispatching Mailers and improving throughput.

Campaign Dispatchers Configured for Email Type of Mailers

Often, mail servers have limits on the volume of mail that can be sent out per e-mail address in any given period. For email mailers, the rate and volume of a campaign dispatcher can be configured to address any such limitations. Rate refers to the number of Mailers that can be dispatched in an hour. Volume refers to the number of Mailers to be marked for a single dispatch session by the dispatcher.

When multiple campaign dispatchers are enabled, Mailers are dispatched simultaneously based on the specified rate and volume and the mail server settings configured for each dispatcher. This enables Desktop Client users to scale from sending a few Mailers to sending millions of Mailers. After a dispatcher completes the processing of a batch, it marks the next batch for dispatch. The actual rate at which Mailers are dispatched depends on the network load and the mail server settings.

The mail server details, volume and rate must be specified separately for each dispatcher.

Tip

To receive read receipts for Mailers:

1.  Locate the following registry entry on the computer on which the campaign dispatcher server is installed:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Talisma\MailerService\Configuration

2.  Modify the value of the ReadReceipts entry (REG_DWORD) from 0 to 1.

A read receipt for the Mailer is requested when Mailers are sent using the campaign dispatcher.

Note

If you set the ReadReceipts entry (REG_DWORD) value to '0', read receipts will not be received.

Campaign Dispatchers for SMS Type of Mailers

You need to configure the size of the batch of SMS Mailers that the campaign dispatcher will process at a time. The value in this field is similar to the volume of Email type of Mailers that will be dispatched in a single dispatch session.

You can specify the count of Mailers that need to be merged in a single batch. You need to specify the number of Mailers in the batch. A batch comprises the number of Mailers that the campaign dispatcher will select at a time from Main database. For example, if the batch size is set to 500, the campaign dispatcher will mark the first 500 Mailers and start personalizing the content specific to these Mailers. After this is accomplished, the campaign dispatcher will mark the next 500 Mailers to be merged.

To optimize performance, base the batch size on the SMS traffic you anticipate in your Campaigns and the size of your database.

Note

Rate and volume settings need to be set when you create a campaign dispatcher by specifying details in the Create Campaign Dispatcher dialog box.

•   For EMAIL type of dispatchers, the default values of these parameters are indicated in the following fields:

◦   Messages Dispatched per Hour - Default value is 100.

◦   Volume of mails per batch - Default value is 500.

•   For SMS type of dispatchers, the volume parameter is indicated in the Message batch size field. Its default value is 500.
