Background for the Awards Page
You use the Awarding page to award and manage financial aid. It provides, in a single workspace, a comprehensive picture of the assistance provided to a student. Anthology Student is organized around academic years.
How to Use the Page
The tabs that are displayed depend on the academic calendar selected for the program version. The table shows the tabs displayed for the academic calendars.
Academic Calendar | Tabs Displayed | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
Academic Years | Loan Periods | Awards | Loan Period View | |
Term | X | X | ||
Non-term | X | X | X | X |
Complete the tabs on the page from left to right in the order shown. The example shows the tabs displayed for a program version configured with an academic calendar with clock hours (non-term).
After you've added the academic years, loan periods (if applicable), and payment periods (if applicable), you can use the Awards tab to:
-
Automatically add the awards based on the packaging method you select (auto-packaging)
-
Manually add the estimated awards (such as individually adding a Pell grant and Direct loan)
If there are academic years on the Academic Years tab, Anthology Student displays the information for the academic year sequence closest to the current date by default. Anthology Student also keeps track of the academic year you are working with. If you switch to another tab on the page, it displays the information for the year you were working with on the other tab. For example, if you select sequence 2 on the Academic Years tab and switch to the Awards tab, the awards displayed are for sequence 2.
The grid shows the items for the program version of the current enrollment (if any). Use the Program Version drop-down to change the program version. You cannot select All Program Versions.
If there are no academic years on the Academic Years tab, Anthology Student displays the message: "Student has no academic year for the most current enrollment".
To correctly build out academic years, financial aid needs to be configured for the program. Select the Configuration tile > expand Financial Aid > select Program Versions. Once configured, the academic years will build out during the student's enrollment. If the student is already enrolled, you can add an academic year sequence (refer to Academic Years). This will use the configuration in the program version to build them out.
Prerequisites
The table summarizes the prerequisites for reviewing and adding on the tabs.

Financial Aid Fund Sources
Many sources of funds are available for meeting the financial needs of your students. Some fund sources are grants that the student is not required to repay. Other fund sources are loans from the Department of Education (Direct loans) or from other institutions such as banks and other lending organizations. Loans have to be repaid to the lender by the student or parents, usually with interest.
Other fund sources include student payments. They can be:
-
A payment schedule for payments made by a student or payments made by an agency on behalf of the student
-
Other outside resources paid directly to the student that do not require repayment (such as Veterans Administration benefits)
Fund sources can also be third parties such as commercial financial institutions, private and governmental agencies, corporations, charitable organizations, parents of students, and the students themselves. Your institution configures its fund sources.
For more information, refer toFund Source Types.
Title IV Programs
The most prominent of these fund sources are the Title IV funds provided by the U.S. Department of Education. Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA), authorizes the Federal Pell Grant, William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan, Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL), Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work-Study (FWS), and Federal Perkins Loan Programs. These programs are collectively known as Title IV programs. There are several other sources of funds provided by federal and state departments and agencies.
In addition to the Title IV programs, there are other federal financial assistance programs for students including AmeriCorps, The Hope Scholarship, Lifetime Learning Credit, and programs funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Title IV programs may be categorized as gift aid or self-help aid. Gift aid consists of grants and scholarships that are given to students; it does not have to be repaid. Self-help aid takes the form of loans (which must be repaid) and employment (which pays students wages for hours worked at jobs provided on campus or off campus).

You can use the Packaging Summary report to obtain information about the statuses for all funds. Refer to Packaging Summary.
Values Displayed During Awarding
Some of the values on the tabs of the Awards page are pre-populated, estimated, and can be updated by Anthology Student. In most cases, the values can be changed.
Values That Can Be Pre-Populated
The table shows a few examples of the pre-populated values and their sources.
Source | Example Value |
---|---|
FAFSA or ISIR | Dependency Status |
Program version | Weeks in Academic Year |
If configured for the program version or you select a budget, all the values under Budget | |
Files imported from COD | For academic years, FA Entrance Interview Date from the Direct Loan Entrance Counseling Acknowledgment (CRECMYOP) file |
Values That Are Estimated
Anthology Student can also display estimated values. For example, Anthology Student displays estimates for the Start Date and End Date.
If your institution uses the Student Pace Evaluation (SPE) tool and a student is enrolled in a program version based on clock hours or credit hours without terms, the SPE tool will estimate start and end dates for payment periods, academic years, and graduation based on the instructional weeks it will take the student to complete all of the academic year weeks.
Values That Are Automatically Updated
Anthology Student can automatically update values if:
-
There are changes to the FAFSA or ISIR
-
Your institution is promoting package statuses automatically
-
Your institution is using the Student Pace Evaluation (SPE) feature
For information about the SPE feature and all the values it can update, refer to Background for Student Pace Evaluation.
Anthology Student cannot automatically update:
-
Financial aid that is packaged
-
Sequences that are completed or disbursed
