Pell COA
You can use the Pell COA tab on the Program Versions page to configure a Pell cost of attendance (COA) instead of using a calculated Pell COA. The Pell COA value will be displayed on the Awards form in the Need Analysis grid by matching the housing status on the student’s academic year with the corresponding housing status configured here.
Pell COA is applied when a student's housing costs change within a payment period. For example, if a student moves from on-campus to off-campus housing at midterm, the institution may wish to recalculate the student’s award for that payment period.
Pell Cost of Attendance Calculation
The Pell COA is always based on a full-time student for a full 9-month academic year by residency.
The Pell COA populated on the Awarding form uses the value configured on the program version based on the housing status (With Parent, On Campus, Off Campus) when configured.
When the number of months in the academic year is less than 9, Anthology Student will calculate a student's Pell COA correctly if you also reduce the values in the Budget section on the Academic Year form.
The Pell COA tab uses default values of 0.00 for all housing cost amounts. If the residency costs are not configured, students in the selected program version with an academic year starting on or after the effective date will have a zero Pell cost of attendance.
Pell COA is restricted from being configured/modified in any other form other than the FAA Cost of Attendance when the Process Activation for SFAAA Initial (Auto Packaging) is enabled so that multiple areas are not updating the same table. If Auto Packaging is enabled for the campuses attached to the program version, the following message is displayed when the Pell COA tab is saved:
"Automated awarding is enabled for a campus associated with this Program Version. Students will use the Pell COA configured on the automated budget and packaging options form based on the effective date."
Important: If Anthology Student finds a configured effective date for the academic year, the system will use whatever amount you configure in the housing status field, even if a zero is entered.

LTHT COA in Pell Calculations for Award Year 2024-25
Pell calculations for the 2024-25 award year and later will use the LTHT Pell Cost of Attendance (COA) to calculate a term's disbursement amount when a student is enrolled in the term with an enrollment intensity of less than 50%.
Anthology Student awards Pell Grants against the maximum Pell amount and the student's enrollment intensity. The awarded Pell amount will not exceed the LTHT Pell COA when a student is enrolled in 5 or fewer credits.
If the On Campus LTHT, Off Campus, LTHT, or With Parent LTHT value configured on the program version is:
-
Greater than $0, the system will use that value when reporting the LTHT Pell COA to the fund source
-
$0, the system will use the institutional charges from the academic year sequence to calculate the LTHT Pell COA value
The system uses the FT and LTHT Pell COA based on the start date of the academic year in which the disbursements are scheduled for the program version of the Pell Grant fund source.
If the Pell Grant is awarded across multiple program versions or academic years, it will have the value configured for the program version or institutional charges of the academic year start date used to award the LTHT disbursement.
This means that Pell awards in multiple academic years for
-
For the same program version may have different Pell COA and LTHT Pell COA in each academic year.
-
For different program versions will have two different Pell COA and LTHT Pell COA values.
The system will not update the LTHT Pell COA field value if the field is populated and locked under Student Profile > Financial Aid > Awarding > Awards.
