Background for Requisite Validations and Conflicts

When you take actions for courses, Anthology Student performs validations and identifies conflicts. Examples of actions for courses include:

  • Register the student for a course

  • Unregister a course

  • Drop a course

Examples of Validations and Conflicts

Examples of conflicts during registration include:

  • A student is on a registration hold

  • The class section has a maximum number of students allowed and it has been exceeded.

  • The maximum count of units (credits/hours) for the given elective pool will be exceeded by given number of units (credits/hours) beyond the elective pool units(credits/hours) limit.

  • The student does not have a grade for one or more prerequisite courses.

  • The student is not registered for corequisite courses.

  • The course is configured with Prerequisite/Corerequisite as the Requisite Type and the student does not have a grade for one or more prerequisite courses and they are not registered for corequisite courses.

  • The course has an anti-requisite.

  • The student is already registered for the course. A message is displayed and you cannot proceed with the registration.

  • The course is a retake. A message is displayed to confirm if you want to proceed with the retake.

  • There are scheduling conflicts.

  • The course is offered on multiple campuses (course sharing). (If you have the necessary permissions for the campus, you can proceed with the registration.)

  • The course can be taken as credit for another course (cross-referenced).

  • The course has waitlist and auto-add class section is configured.

  • The student does not have a prerequisite document in their Documents list.

  • The student does not have a test in their Test Scores list.

  • The student is not in the prerequisite grade level.

Examples of conflicts during unregister or drop include:

  • There are corequisites for the course they are unregistering or dropping.

  • The course they are unregistering or dropping is a prerequisite for another registered course.

  • The add or drop period for the class has expired

If the staff member has permission, they can override the conflicts and continue to register, unregister, or drop the student.

When Anthology Student is evaluating requisite rules, it evaluates anti-requisite rules first. If registrations is:

  • Denied for the anti-requisite, Anthology Student does not move on to evaluating prerequisites and corequisites

  • Allowed for the anti-requisite, Anthology Student then evaluates the prerequisites and corequisites

Configuration and Permissions

Your institution can use the following setting for campuses to specify the statuses a prerequisite course must have for a staff member without override permission to continue to register.

Course Status for Prerequisite EvaluationClosed Without override permission, a staff member can register and unregister courses that have prerequisites with these statuses. The status options are Complete, Complete/Current, and Complete/Current/Scheduled. If configured, Anthology Student also evaluates equivalent courses and the minimum GPA for completed prerequisites. For example, if you select Complete/Current/Scheduled and you do not require a minimum GPA, the prerequisite course for the student can be completed with any grade, the student can be currently taking the course, or the course can be scheduled for a staff member to register or unregister the course. If you select Complete and you configured a minimum GPA for the prerequisite, the student must have completed the course with the minimum GPA specified for the staff member to register or unregister the course.

Anthology Student also:

  • Checks completed prerequisites to make sure they meet the minimum GPA (if one is configured)

  • Includes equivalent courses for the prerequisites in the evaluation

Your institution can also select the following options for unregister and drop during campus configuration.

You can override conflicts in some cases if you have the specialized permission. For example:

  • Allow maximum students in class and Add/Drop date Override - All CampusesClosed Select the check box to give a staff member permission to override the maximum class size when registering students in a class section for all campuses. During registration, a message is displayed when maximum class size is about to be exceeded on their Student Courses page. (Select the Students tile > select the name in the Students list > expand Academic Records > select the Student Courses tile.) The staff member can determine if it is okay to register the student anyway. If this check box is selected, the campus setting for Add/Drop is overridden. or Allow maximum students in class and Add/Drop date Override - Users Campuses OnlyClosed Select the check box to give a staff member permission to override the maximum class size when registering students in a class section for the campuses they are authorized to work with.

  • Allow User to Override Registration HoldsClosed Select the check box to give a staff member permission to override a registration hold on their Student Courses page and register students without needing to remove these students from a registration hold group. (Select the Students tile > select the name in the Students list > expand Academic Records > select the Student Courses tile > add or select a course in the list > select the Register button.)

  • Allow Prerequisite/Corequisite registration and Maximum Course Attempts OverrideClosed Select the check box to give a staff member permission to override prerequisite and corequisite course requirements when processing a single student registration in a course for which there are other courses required as prerequisites or corequisites. It also gives a staff member permission to override the maximum course attempts rule when registering a student on their Student Courses page. (Select the Students tile > select the name in the Students list > expand Academic Records > select the Student Courses tile.)

  • Allow Prerequistie and Corequistie override for drop/unregisterClosed Select the check box to give a staff member permission to override prerequisite and corequisite course requirements when processing a single student drop or unregister from a course which is a prerequisite or corequisite to another course on their Student Courses page. (Select the Students tile > select the name in the Students list > expand Academic Records > select the Student Courses tile.)

Where Anthology Student Performs Validations and Checks for Conflicts

Anthology Student checks for conflicts in more than one location. From the:
